IMPORTANT: this game uses EA’s on-line activation process which may limit the number of installs of this game. Wine updates cause this activation to repeat itself and will reduce the number of installs allowed. EA DRM SUCKS BALLZ! I paid for this game and should be able to install it anywhere I want as many times as I want…
Anyhoo = I installed Steam + Alice: Madness Returns in it’s own clean wineprefix using “winetricks steam” from the terminal
Close Steam then run
winetricks vcrun6
winetricks vcrun2005
winetricks xact
In winecfg in Steam prefix set Windows version to Windows 7 + delete any dll overrides except disabled steam overlay renderer.
If you don’t delete the DLL overrides you will not have sound once in the game.
Launch Steam and install the game. The game should launch as normal after trying to install the usual .Net packages…
While the gameplay is standard console / on rails – this game is worth it for the visuals alone! The story is pretty wicked too…
